Mom and I just got back from taking dad to DFW airport. He got a phone call around 1:30 this morning that one of his church members, an 18-yr-old boy named Jamie Purpera, was killed in a car crash last night. He got an early plane flight and will hopefully get out ahead of Hurricane Ike.
I didn't know Jamie very well, but I remember him as a sweet, friendly boy that was always smiling and hugging everyone at church. Todd and I got to know him a little during the summer Youth Camps over the last few years. He was a professing Christian who was baptized last summer. He graduated from high school this spring and was looking forward to starting college this fall. He leaves behind his mom, dad, brother, and sister. May God bless them during this difficult time.

Thank you for posting your kind words about Jamie. I am his Aunt and yes, he was a very sweet boy. He will be missed a great deal. I have some pictures posted on my blog of him from the last time we were back in LA with him. God bless you.
