I am fortunate to have a beautiful Whole Foods Market close by that has a fabulous bulk spice section. Every spice or seasoning blend I could imagine is available in big jars from which I scoop the amount I need. It’s always ultra-fresh and CHEAP!!
Seriously, I can scoop a nice-sized bag (more than comes in a McCormick bottle) of freshly dried oregano for 32 cents. The bag of dried bay leaves I picked was 9 cents. That’s cheaper than the Dollar Store and much better quality. I re-stocked five or six spices on my last visit and only spent a couple of dollars.
That totally works for me.

I'm so glad to know this (and wish I did about two weeks ago!). I've got a Whole Foods pretty close by, but haven't been for fear of spending a thousand dollars on groceries when I go!
We don't have a Whole Foods...but I go to a relatively local Amish bulk food store and stock up on spices for a fraction of the cost. Great tip!
Wow! That's awesome!!!
Man, I wish I had something like that around here!!!! I used to do the co-op thing in my old town, but we don't have that either! Rats!
Looks like the closest one of these to me is in Birmingham -- which I'm definitely hitting up next time we're there. Thanks for the tip!
